Stonebwoy born Livingstone Etse Satekla, has expressed his utmost concern towards the progress of the creative Art industry. He suggested that, the government needs to support the creative to digitally monetize their craft.
According to Stonebwoy, government has assisted the industry, ‘but more needs to be done’. However, the government needs to support their craft by digitally monetizing them. In order for them to make money and support the government as well.
“Government has helped the creative industry, but more needs to be done. If two (2) million people in Ghana stream our songs through the proper channels, then we can make enough money and help government through the taxes we pay”, he said
“Talking about digital distribution, government needs to support the industry to digitally monetize our craft” he added.
He made these submissions when he joined an Instagram Live discussion by the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
In view of this, the Minister promised Stonebwoy, a meeting with his colleague Minister of Tourism ‘to see the way forward’ to his claims.
“I will talk to Barbara Oteng Gyasi to set up a meeting with you and the others in the industry to see the way forward”, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah promised.
Again, Stonebwoy suggested that the meeting should include his colleague musicians, like Sarkodie, Shata Wale, Esem and those after them like Kuami Eugene, Kidi, etc.
When a suggestion was made by the Information Minister saying, the upcoming musicians to diversify their income, Stonebwoy in his reply stated that, there is nothing for to diversify. Hence, all they need to do is to ‘connect the global system to Ghana’.
