Fat Joe is clearly not a fan of President Donald Trump. The New York rapper was spotted at the Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday (Sept. 12) and was asked about Trump’s rejection of the idea that 3,000 people died in Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria, and he didn’t hold back about his feelings towards the statement.
“It’s terrible, man. More people died in Puerto Rico than even Hurricane Katrina,” the rapper said. “The president is delusional, man. I can’t wait for two more years to hurry up and he can get out of here. He’s delusional.”
On Thursday (Sept. 13), Trump doubled down on his claims, tweeting, “3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000.” Despite Trump’s claim, many independent agencies have put the death toll at least 3,000 people after the devastating national disaster.
With another hurricane set to hit South Carolina and parts of the east coast, Fat Joe believes the response for Hurricane Florence will be different since the storm is hitting the mainland of the United States.
“I think it’ll be different because it’s on the mainland of the United States of America. This man ain’t even know Puerto Ricans was Americans,” the rapper added, alleging that Trump had no idea the people of Puerto Rico are American citizens.
Following the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico, Fat Joe did his best to help the island, teaming up with Tidal to send an airplane full of supplies. “The goal is to fill and send as many cargo planes as possible,” he said at the time.
