Former President John Dramani Mahama will today, July 6, 2020, reveal his running mate for the 2020 presidential elections.
As the National Executives Committee (NEC) of the opposition NDC meets today at 11 am, The flagbearer of National Democratic Congress(NDC), is foreseen to introduce either Former Education Minister, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, a former Director-General of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Dr. Isaac Bannerman Nii Moi Thompson, a former Minister of Health and Deputy Campaign Manager for the 2020 elections, Mr. Alex Segbefia or a former Finance Minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor as his choice of running mate.
According to unconfirmed multiple sources, Mr. Mahama is likely to settle on Prof Opoku-Agyeman to partner him, Mr. Mahama, to stage a come back for the highest office of the land come December 7, 2020. Political watchers believe this will break the cycle of male running mates and prepare the grounds for a more active female political engagements.
Also, there is consensus among political commentators on how this decision on the part of Mr. Mahama will inject some life to Ghana’s endeavor to pursue female engagements in decision-making at the highest level.
It appears John Mahama looks forward to bringing changes and show his commitment to exposing a woman as his running mate.
Should NEC validate the choice of Formal Vice-Chancellor of UCC, Naana Opoku Agyemang who many consider a woman of integrity? The good Prof. Opoku-Agyemang will become the first female running mate of the two leading political parties (NDC and NPP) in the country.
