It has been reported by the government of Kuwait to deport some 245 Ghanaian citizens who are currently living in Kuwait illegally back to Ghana on May 23,2020.
The Minister of Information, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, addressing the media at the press centre of the Ministry, announced that, the Government of Ghana has put in place special chattered flight at the cost of the Kuwaiti government to accept deportees in Kuwait to Ghana.
“The government of Ghana has… granted a special permit for the admission of the said deportees to Ghana,” Mr. Oppong Nkrumah said.
According to Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, the government has put in measures to safely confine the 245 deportees from Kuwait as they ensure the rest of the Covid-19 response program is litigated.
However, all the deportees will be mandatorily quarantined and tested for coronavirus immediately upon arrival into Ghana.
He said, deportees who test positive would be given the necessary supportive treatment while those who test negative will remain in quarantine for a second test at the end of a 14-day quarantine period.
He stated that, all deportees will remain in custody of the state for preliminary investigations for circumstances of their illegal stay in Kuwait.
“It is after this investigation that a case by case determination would be made on the status and further handling of each deportee…” he added.
