Steve Harvey, American comedian and television host in Ghana to learn more about Africa-America roots and slavery.
Steve Harvey was met by Minister of Tourism, Babara Oteng Gyasi and the Year of Return committee at the W.E.B DuBois Centre in Cantonments, Accra. The Minister expressed her delight seeing the actor in Ghana. The comedian together with his family will visit various tourist sites including the castles, learn more about Ghanaian music and also about the African roots.
As part of The Year of Return agenda to promote tourism in Ghana, some well known Hollywood stars visited the country in December 2018 to spend the christmas festivities. Top among them include; actor Boris Johnson, Nicole Ari Parker, Diggy Simmons, Micheal Jai White, Anthony Anderson (of Blackish), Rosario Dawson, Jidenna, Cynthia Bailey, Bozoma Saint John and many others. They explored the castles, markets, traditions, culture. In their adventures and quest to learn more about traditions, Michael Jai White got enstooled as ‘Odupong’ of Akwamu Traditional Area by the Akwamuhene Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III – Akwamumanhene.
Also, in honour of the celebrations, the committee organised a music festival which saw sensational artiste Deborah Cox, Ernie Smith, Irvin Mayfield and reggae band Third World coming to the country to perform and explore the music, art and culture. Actor Samuel L Jackson who traced his root to Gabon, also made his way to Ghana to shoot a documentary on slavery.
His adventures in the country included visiting local markets like Makola, fish markets in cape coast and many others to have a feel of the culture and the people.
