The Council of the University of Ghana has appointed Prof. Lydia Aziato as the substantive Dean for the School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM).
Prof. Lydia Aziato replaced Prof. Ernestina Donkor, the Acting Dean between 2017 to 2019 and with her accomplishment of the position of Associate Professor, she has now been named as the substantive Dean by the university.
According to reports, the Council has considered and approved her appointment during its gathering held on July 15.The School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM)
has gotten its first Dean since it was granted a school status in 2000.
The nursing and birthing fraternity has saluted her for her appointment. The School of Nursing and Midwifery (SoNM) is a constituent School of the College of Health Sciences. In 1963, a World Health Organization (WHO) project established the school to train nurses and midwives at the tertiary level in Ghana.
The School has since made headways over the years because of the responsibility, industriousness and diligent work of its faculty and staff. The school remained as a leading institution providing academic and professional training in Nursing and Midwifery in Ghana.
The School currently runs programmes in BSc. Midwifery and Nursing (with options in Mental Health Nursing, Pediatric Nursing, and General Nursing), MSc. Nursing (Regular and Sandwich options), MPhil. Pediatric Nursing, MPhil. Nursing (Regular and Sandwich options). The School will start PhD in Nursing programme in August 2020.
