The Vice President of Ghana, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has warned SOE heads that they risk being laid off work if performance targets are not met. He warned the heads that they will be fired if the targets set for the year were not met as agreed upon in the contracts negotiated and presented.
Performance contracts for the year 2020 between the Boards and Management of specified entities on one hand; and the government, represented by the State Interest Governance Authority (SIGA) and the respective sector ministries, on the other hand, were signed in Accra on Wednesday 8 January 2020.
The event is in fulfillment of a statutory provision under the Regulations (196) of the Public Financial Management Act (LI 2378).
The Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia indicated that the government is aligning the performance of state entities with the vision of the Ghana Beyond Aid economic transformation agenda.
Dr. Bawumia said “In the past, the operations of the state entities were quite opaque but with SIGA, enhanced transparency and accountability is being introduced,”.
He reminded the management and board members that their continued stay in their positions will depend on whether they meet the targets set for them in the performance contracts.
